I love Miami, Ocean Drive, Art Deco buildings. I love Latin Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and Conga. And the food.... I love the food! The only thing missing in our lives is Tony Mendoza's Art. When you experience the whimsical, humorous and vibrant colors of the vignettes in Miami's Latin City Scape you will want to bring Miami and the Latin flavors home! Born in New York City to Cuban parents, Mendoza grew up in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami where you can see the impact the Cuban influence has in his art. You can almost hear the sounds of the Rumba music coming out of the buildings, the hustle and bustle of every day life. You can hear the children's laughter and smell the tobacco and cuban cafe! Conjunto Kimbombo performs guajiro music from Cuba, written and recorded originally by Miguel Matamoros, Guillermo Portabales, Los Guaracheros de Oriente, Compay Segundo, Eliades Ochoa, Polo Montanez and more. This beautiful music is the soul of Cuba's countryside, and a primary source for modern day forms of Latin music ranging from salsa to bachata to reggaeton. They have performed covers and originals in casitas, bars, clubs, libraries, hospitals, senior citizen homes, churches, and fighting off smoke from la caja china. But what they like most of all is to take their musical message to school settings where they offer performance-lectures on the history of Cuban folk music and its connections to Cuban poetry, especially the poetry of Nicolás Guillén. Lately, They have also begun an exciting music-text collaboration titled "Cuban Suite" with Cecilia Rodríguez Milanés. This includes Cecilia performing a set of original poems, including her epic, "Cuban American Manifesto," with musical support from Conjunto Kimbombó. We do workshops, too! We can work with students one on one or in groups to teach—and discuss—the basics of son, montuno, guajira, and more. Let us make Cuban folk music a part of your curriculum in Caribbean or Latin American studies, literature, history, world music, humanities, modern languages, etc. Instrumentation Jorge Milanés (percussion, lead vocals); Kevin Meehan (guitars, harmony vocals) Discography "Quiero Ser Tu Chocolate" is our full length CD. Streaming cuts are available at www.myspace.com/conjuntokimbombo Stories that touch your heart. Life Experiences~

0016 2010, Wed, Jan 27, Conservative Latino Talk Radio. Lauro discusses his observations about immigration and illegal immigration in America during the past few years. Lauro points out details of his own education, training and experience that relate to border security and immigration enforcement. Secondly, Lauro discusses the result of the foolish anti-immigration politics that pushed the Latino Swing vote away from the GOP in 2008. Now some candidates are trying to bring that out again, fooolishly. Lauro then discussed the Constitution's Interstate Commerce clause and how that is instituted in law enforcement among inspectors and not police officers. Then Lauro discusses the distinction between the two. What motivates anti-immigration groups like NumbersUSA & FairUS...radical environmentalism. Groups like US Border Watch are motivated by a genuine desire for border security but Lauro explains how that is such a monumental task that Americans will never support it. Lauro goes on to explain how immigration is a economic commodity essential to the American economy. Finally, Lauro discusses how state agencies continue to offer unconstitutional attempts to provide local law enforcement with federal immigration inspection authority.

Eduardo (Eddy) Puyol, a Cuban American, grew up in the heart of Miami, FL where he fell in love with the hip-hop culture at a young age. He tapped into his musical gifting at the age of eleven and less than one year later he found himself center-stage performing for the Lord at various events. In High school, found himself caught up in the lifestyle epitomized by mainstream music and media. Being intoxicated with drugs and alcohol, stealing, clubbing, having sex with random females, getting kicked out of high school as well as his family’s home, selling drugs (just to name a few), soon became a routine part of his daily life. For many years he lived the life others can only dream of…a glorified life surrounded by luxury, possessions, and an endless supply of women, sex, drugs, and money. (For a season) it looked like he had it all together, Eddy’s heart was still torn between what he knew he should be doing and what was doing. After several near death experiences, being alienated from his family, almost becoming a young father, facing criminal charges, and daily intoxication had finally become a monotonous lifestyle for Eddy, he made up his mind to give this ‘walk with God’ another chance. His journey, his Christian music, and his Ultimate experience as one of Omarosa's Fab 12 to consider marrying on this summer's sizzling 'Ultimate Merger' on TV One, Eddy, Rawsrvnt, has a story to tell...Tune in 8pm cst, as we hear not just his testimony, but a chance to enjoy his music as well. Call in to join the conversation 347-945-6968 and connect with one of your fav bachelors on the show!
Join Rachelle Cruz as she talks to Cristina Garcia author of The Lesser Tragedy of Death http://www.akashicbooks.com/lessertragedy.htm Author of Dreaming in Cuban, The Agüero Sisters, Monkey Hunting, and ¡Cubanísmo!, an anthology of contemporary Cuban literature, Cristina García explores Cuban identity by confronting her own experience of displacement and loss of cultural memory. “At any given time, there are three realities competing for my attention: the everyday life with my daughter, the life of what I’m reading, and the life of what I’m writing. If I weren’t a writer, I’d be diagnosed with multiple personality disorder!” In 1961, in the wake of Castro’s rise to power, García, then two, immigrated with her family to New York City where they lived in ethnically diverse neighborhoods with few Cubans or other Latinos.
Ochani Lele is the pen name of B. Stuart Myers, an author of books about Afro-Cuban folklore and spirituality. He was born in Richmond, Virginia, to an unwed, teenage mother and an absent father. He spent the first five years of his life living in an extended household with his maternal grandparents, mother, and aunt. He spent four semesters studying at Mary Washington College in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia, planning to pursue dual degrees in English Literature and Psychology; however, his desire to experience the exotic world of magic and alternative spirituality sent him on a journey that ended with his initiation in the Afro-Cuban world of Santería, a religion known to adherents as the Lucumí faith. Over the years he has written a number of books about that faith: “The Secrets of Afro-Cuban Divination” (Destiny Books, 2000); “Obi, Oracle of Cuban Santería” (Destiny Books, 2001); “The Diloggún” (Destiny Books, 2003); and, most recently, “Teachings of the Santería Gods” (Destiny Books, 2010). Please join The H20 Network for an insightful discussion about his work, and how to manifest prosperity with the teachings of Orisha. There will be a book giveaway for those un or underemployed if they call in and share their stories with us!
